Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Are bitter arguments killing the love and respect you once felt for each other? Are you losing sleep, crying too much, or blowing up "for no reason"? Do you yell at the kids and later berate yourself for being a "bad" parent? Chronic arguing and lack of affection can leave us feeling depressed and irritable, with no hope for the future, little energy or pleasure in daily activities, and lack of desire to move closer to the ones we love. In tough times like these, talking with an impartial person in a confidential setting can be a relief and a source of new perspective. I have helped people like you work through challenges such as marital and workplace discord, parent/child conflict, suicidal thoughts, excessive anger, infidelity and broken trust, ineffective communication, suicidal thoughts, processing rape or other traumas, and adjustment to divorce, death of loved one, job loss, or return from military service. I will help you discover how coping strategies like withdrawal, aggression, or substance use have helped as well as hurt you. We will identify and build on your strengths. I will help you observe and honor your "inner voice", listen more effectively to other people, set clear boundaries, say what you want and need with confidence, and express anger in healthy and productive ways. My style is relaxed and interested, caring and respectful. My approach is collaborative consultant, not "the expert" who tells you what to do. I also hold a Certificate in Pastoral Counseling. I believe the Divine is reflected in all human experience and relationships. This value is foundational for me as a person, and essential to my practice as a therapist. I have been a volunteer for 10 years in faith formation for children (Catholic), as a catechist and 5th grade team leader. I have been married for 35 years and raised twins who are now adults on their own.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
