Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a pragmatic, down-to-earth therapist with 25 years of experience assisting people to develop more harmonious relationships and lead happier, more fulfilling lives. Whether I work with you as an individual, a couple, or a family, my goal is to help you respond effectively to the challenges you face by building on your strengths and by developing new ones. I tailor my approach to you and your specific situation, although interactive dialogue, practical wisdom, and humor are consistent features of my work. Like most therapists, I'm curious about all the life experiences that have shaped you. However, I'm less interested in reconstructing the past and more interested in helping you to understand and resolve issues as they appear in your life today. My areas of specialization include therapy for intimate relationships, anger management groups for men, and recovery from substance abuse and other addictions. In addition, I have helped hundreds of clients to address such issues as anxiety, depression, life transitions, blended families, adolescence, relationship conflicts, spousal abuse, men's issues, women's issues, financial difficulties, work and career challenges, disability and chronic illness, and spiritual crises.

About My Practice

Office Hours
Monday to Thursday 12-9 pm Friday 12-6 pm
Services
I offer short- and long-term therapy for adults, couples, families, and adolescents, as well as anger management groups for men. From the beginning to the end of therapy, I will collaborate with you to define your goals and objectives and evaluate your progress toward them. I employ psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, family systems, and brief strategic methods, as well as hypnosis and EMDR (a technique for addressing trauma). When appropriate, I bring the perspective of various spiritual disciplines to bear on my work. Regardless of the method, I offer a safe and trusting environment where you can identify and discard the beliefs that no longer serve you and meet the challenge of becoming the person, couple, or family you want to be.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
