Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am a relationship specialist who treats individuals and couples to create more rewarding and productive interpersonal relationships. My goal as your therapist is to help you develop skills and gain insight to live a more satisfying life. I work with adults on an individual basis to address issues negatively impacting their life and daily functioning, such as distress over major life transitions (marriage, divorce, changes in jobs, etc), feelings of anxiety and depression, work place stress, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem issues. Through the use of cognitive behavioral and solution focused interventions, adapted to meet each client's specific needs, I assist individuals in identifying triggers to their distress, identify and build upon existing coping skills, and improve one's ability to manage various life stressors. In couples therapy, I assist couples in enhancing their current relationships by helping identify and build upon their already present strengths, develop healthy communication, improve intimacy, and increase the couple's ability to handle conflict and stress. I provide premarital counseling to aid the couple in the exciting and challenging transition into a marital relationship. I assist the couple in exploring their relationship strengths, improve communications skills (including active listening skills), conflict resolution skills, and guide the couple in an exploration of family of origin issues as they pertain to the current relationship.
