Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Specializing in attachment, trauma and the family system, my treatment of children, adolescents and adults reflects over 25 years of clinical experience in mental health, child welfare and residential treatment. I strive to create a warm, supportive therapeutic environment where you feel heard and understood. I believe the safety of the therapeutic relationship allows you to engage in meaningful exploration of the issues that are impacting your wellbeing. Therapy is a collaborative process and my role is to empower you to achieve your goals. I have experience helping clients with concerns related to parenting, grief/loss, infertility, adoption and trauma. Chronic exposure to traumatic events impacts every part of our being and in particular how we connect to one another in order to get our primary needs met. In addition, I specialize in the treatment of children/youth who have suffered chronic exposure to trauma/neglect and often exhibit disabling behavioral patterns affecting attention, socialization, self-esteem, and affect modulation. Parenting children/youth with histories of complex trauma related to grief/loss, divorce, adoption, foster care, neglect and abuse can make parents feel overwhelmed or ineffective. Learning effective therapeutic parenting strategies to strengthen the primary attachment relationships within the family system is critical in order to empower parents to be the healing mechanism for their child. I utilize a clinical orientation of family systems attachment therapy to strengthen and improve the functioning of the entire family system. I can provide skype sessions for out of state clients.
