Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Therapy (which comes from the Greek work “to change”), is a very brave and personal endeavor that an individual and/or family undertakes to gain insight into their emotional state, decisions that have been made or to understand behavior. I have a great deal of experience working with families in crisis, children and adolescents with special education needs, adults and parents that are seeking support to parent a difficult and/or challenging child. In addition, I utilize a very supportive, nurturing yet directive approach in my therapeutic process.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
