Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have worked and specialized in a myriad of areas: I have experience working with teens struggling with both emotional and behavioral adjustment issues and their families; adults and teens struggling with substance abuse issues; adults struggling with chronic mental illness; domestic violence (with those identifying as survivors / victims). I continue to provide clinical supervision to MFTs in training and MFT interns over several years to date. Throughout my career, my experience working with trauma as a whole has been highlighted as the primary source of many of our challenges in our relationships and various life stressors.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
