Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I specialize in working with couples, families with child and adolescent problems. I have a holistic approach towards therapy in order to cater to the individual’s needs. My treatment modalities include family therapy, play therapy, psychotherapy, cognitive remediation, solution-oriented interventions, parent guidance and school consultation. My work with children and adolescents often involves collaboration with parents, teachers and other supporting professionals. My clinical experiences focus on helping clients to deal with situational difficulties, such as academic and behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, self-harm, procrastination, divorce, coping mechanism, bullying, adjustments, family-parents relationship issues, friends issues and sibling issues, adoption, parental illness, blended (bicultural/biracial) families, LGBT issues and transitions to high school or college. Therapy works best when it draws on strengths and resources that clients already have, but for one reason or another have become blocked and unavailable. My goal is to regain and strengthen their development and maturational progress. I believe we all do the best we can considering the context (s) we live in and the nature of relationships of which we are a part. Respect, dignity, and hope are at the heart of my work with people. Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you will help them become what they are capable of becoming.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
