Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My therapeutic approach is collaborative and holistic.I believe that everyone has the capacity to move towards health and wholeness with the appropriate resources and support. I hold where clients are at in their lives with respect and compassion, and value creating a safe space conducive to sincere exchange. In my near 20 years of experience in both private practice and non profit settings, I have worked with a range of themes, including serving client's in need of support during life transitions/crises, self care/stress, managing mood issues, and relationship dynamics. Clients often come to my practice seeking creative tools to navigate the conflicts and dilemmas in their lives, as well as seeking assistance in unwinding unhealthy patterns and habitual emotional responses, which can limit our capacity to thrive and grow. More specific information about the issues I work with can be viewed below. My therapeutic perspective is informed by the healing arts across cultures, contemplative practices/mindfulness, and Nature.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
