Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Therapy can open new doors, make room for greater connection with others and help you understand what is getting in the way of having a more satisfying life. As Lawrence Fixel, a San Francisco poet put it: “Choice Plus Chance = Change.” With 28 years experience doing individual, couples and group therapy, with adults, I encourage clients to discover what they want from their important relationships and how to express those needs effectively. This kind of work usually increases self-confidence, self-esteem and satisfaction with life choices. I specialize in work with: life transition issues, chronic medical illness, and couples issues. I value highly the concept of lovingkindness and encourage clients to discover the gift of compassion for themselves as well as others. BACKGROUND: I served as an Associate Clinical Professor, University of California Medical School, San Francisco, for 14 years, am a Board Member and Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, Faculty Member of The Psychotherapy Institute, and was president of the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society. As my website shows, I believe deeply in the healing power of the wide range of therapy groups. For useful information and downloadable articles please visit www.DrSteiner.com
