Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
It is so important in choosing a therapist/provider to feel a level of comfort and confidence right from the start. I hope that in describing a bit about myself and my style that you will have a sense if I am the right person for you at this time. I have been working with adults, adolescents and children for over 23 years. Whether I am working with someone on a short term basis, related to a particular issue, or on a longer term basis, I keep in mind the question "what is our goal?" I enlist several approaches which serve the needs of people who come to me. Recognizing how important it is to pay attention to one's deeper desires and fears I work to help an individual integrate body, mind and spirit. I come from a Jungian orientation in this regard. In attempting to help guide someone through changing negative relationship patterns or other problematic behaviors I come from a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach. I work with trauma/abuse and stress related issues with all ages. I have been successful in working with couples to help partners, of all gender and sexual preferences, develop greater tolerance, intimacy and understanding. Additionally, I have created a time-limited co-parenting program that has helped separated parents find common ground for building respect and effective communication around their childrens' needs. At the initial meeting I try to get a sense of the primary area of focus for the individual and their current level of emotional support. I am gathering information necessary to informing my decisions about next steps. My office is situated within a quiet and welcoming professional building that is accessed from a main highway and is handicapped accessible. I can generally accomodate a new individual within one to two days time if needed and I work afternoons and evenings with some hours available most Saturdays. I welcome inquiries and will be glad to assist you in finding the right care.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
