Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
After Graduating from Sonoma State University and having established a successful private practice in Santa Rosa, Ca. for 13 years I decided I needed a change of venue and decided to move to Mt. Shasta, Ca., a beautiful alpine environment in Northern California which I had come to love as an adolescent when I had an aunt and uncle there who taught me to snow ski and enjoy nature via backpacking. So moving here was in a way like coming home again. Since Mt. Shasta is such a peaceful place to be I decided it would be the perfect place to offer short term intensive therapy in the form of what I call Anger Release/Dignity Retrieval work; the premise is that when we were children most of us suffered humilation at the hands of our caregivers which over time eroded our sense of dignity or our inherent right to be treated with respect. My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
