Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Our lives continually present us with opportunities to grow and become more fully ourselves. All of us have relationships that offer us endless possibilities in which we can discover who we are and how we connect with others. It is almost always possible to live happier and more satisfying lives. Sometimes the way is not so clear and the challenges seem overwhelming. Therapy can be a supportive tool when we are struggling to light our path. My work as a therapist as well as a MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction) instructor is grounded in the principles of mindfulness. I have practiced mindfulness for more than 25 years and have learned how habits of mindlessness cause worry and unhappiness. It is true that life is stressful. It is important that our habits of mind do not add to the stress of life, but rather enable us to savor life and to taste what is. My private practice with individuals, couples, parents and families might be summed up in just a few phrases: Take a few deep breaths. Pay attention. Inquire and acknowledge. Turn towards each other.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
