Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I bring to my work more than 20 years of experience in the mental health and health care fields working in the schools, in disaster recovery and a grief and loss program. My educational experiences include two Masters Degrees, one in holistic health and body centered psychotherapies, and one in clinical psychology with an emphasis on children and families. I have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist for the past 8 years. These experiences, along with being a mother, have shaped how I work with clients and have led me to the areas of specialization that I offer. These include working with individuals, couples and families who are experiencing or have experienced: • Loss and grief • Trauma associated with car accidents, medical procedures and abuse. • Body image concerns, eating disorders, illness I also specialize in working with: • Women and mothers who are struggling in their relationships and ability to give voice to themselves and their needs. • Twins (adults and children) • Gay and lesbian individuals and couples • Multicultural clients Along with verbal therapy the tools I use when working with clients are art therapy, sand tray and one that I am quite excited about, Somatic Experiencing, which enables people to gently release and heal unresolved trauma that has been stored in the body.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
