Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Ashley Luis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in individual therapy (children, adolescents, and adults), couples counseling, and family therapy. Ashley's passion for counseling began her senior year of high school when she took her first Psychology class. From there, her love for helping others through their unique struggles has evolved not only into a career, but the main purpose of her life. She appreciates that through her education and training she has learned not only how to assist others towards healthy relationships, but also how to do so in her own life. Ashley has worked closely with many individuals, couples, and families over the last five years in diverse populations, at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, at a drug rehabilitation facility, and she currently also works at an adoption agency. Her hope has always been to join broken families in their difficulties and help them learn new ways of communicating, relating, and living together, which in turn breaks the cycle and creates a new legacy for the next generation. For more than two years, Ashley has had the honor of working with adoptive families and the children they are adopting from foster care, internationally, or as newborns (domestically). This experience has been both challenging and rewarding, as she has witnessed firsthand the triumphs and the trials these families face. Ashley also places her faith at the center of her life, and as a result, enjoys working with families who place an emphasis on their spirituality as well. She utilizes a Systems approach in therapy, which means sessions will focus not only on the "identified problem," but also on how that affects interpersonal connections. She has extensive experience in couples/marriage counseling, family therapy with children who have experienced trauma, and individual therapy with those experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety, or dysfunction within their interpersonal relationships. Ashley offers a calm, empathic environment, where she meets clients where they are at. Clients will also experience a wealth of education, encouragement, and support from this relationship focused therapist. Her belief is that we all have the potential for joy and success in this life and that sometimes we just need help learning how to access the appropriate tools to achieve just that!
