Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I started working as a therapist in 1991 due to my desire to assist and guide others in personal growth. In my experience, I have found a solution-focused, goal-oriented, friendly, yet challenging therapeutic approach brings the results my clients seek. I endeavor to create an atmosphere, (both in our therapeutic relationship and in the comfort of a homey office setting) in which a client feels safe, and healing and growth can occur for the individual and/or relationship as we progress together towards the client’s goals.

It is important that a person seeking counseling, see a therapist who is working on self-improvement, and is in tune with their own issues. A healthy therapist should be calm and remain centered. Personally, I believe a therapist needs to be the healthiest model possible for their clients, and I am always working on my own growth goals.

Featured Therapist

Kelly Duggan Shearer, M.A.
Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
