Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I've had the privilege of working with many amazing families, couples and adolescents since 1990 when I became an ordained pastor. With a background in systems theories related to organizations, I see individual problems and challenges within a larger context--relationships, marriages, families, families of origin, neighborhoods, communities, and even the greater cultural environment. I have an extensive background in family systems therapies including training in Functional Family Therapy, which is an evidenced based model specifically designed to address families with "acting out" adolescents. Through my training for licensure, I have had the privilege of working with families and individuals who are experiencing stress due to employment challenges, substance issues, mental illness, legal issues/imprisonment, single parenting, adoption, fostering, divorce, parental disagreement, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Alzheimer's, phase of life issues, grief, anger management, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I have worked with children ages 10 and older, premarital couples, couples, families and those experiencing the grief of divorce, affairs, long term illness and death. It is a privilege to stand beside others in the time of their greatest need.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
