Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I am a Jungian-oriented psychotherapist in private practice in Westport, CT. I have an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon and hold a California license in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have practiced psychotherapy in San Diego, California and Istanbul, Turkey and am currently a licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Connecticut. I am also a certified Synergy Yoga teacher trained by yoga pioneer Peri Ness at the Synergy Yoga Center in Encinitas, CA. Over the past few years, I have been in training with well-known Jungian analyst and author Marion Woodman at her BodySoul Intensives and seminars, where I have deepened my understanding of the conscious feminine and the psyche-body connection. I bring over 25 years of diverse professional and personal experience to my practice. The theory of my practice has developed from my personal journey and experience. I have grown up bi-culturally influenced by both the Turkish and the American cultures. In seeking to understand my own identity I have used the unique mind-body connection of Jung and Yoga not only in my personal life, but in my private practice as well. I am committed to a nurturing, healing environment where clients can focus on identity and personal growth issues, integrating mind, body and soul.

I know it can be scary to reach out for help, especially in a culture that tells us we should be able to solve our problems on our own and, if we can’t, there is something wrong with us. Well, I’m here to challenge that culture that values independence more than interdependence, because as humans we are designed to be connected with others in relationships. And sometimes the first relationship that needs our focused attention is the one we have with ourselves in order to ‘show up’ in our relationships with others.
