Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
As a Jungian oriented therapist, I view symptoms such as anxiety and depression not as faults, but as afflictions that can lead us to a more authentic relationship with ourselves and with others. Although symptoms are painful, when carefully worked through, they lead to personal growth, wisdom, and spiritual insight. With this, I approach each individual as a unique being, with differing struggles and perspectives, and I avoid categorizations such as "normal" and "abnormal". Through compassionate listening and reflection, my approach will help you discover a fuller and more meaningful life. I have a PhD in depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and have been a licensed psychotherapist for over ten years. I focus on dreams, active imagination, and non-verbal creative expression as a means for uncovering valuable unconscious material. In addition to my practice, I teach courses in counseling and psychology. I am an Associate Professor of counseling at California State University and teach a variety of courses at Pacifica Graduate Institute. I am also a guide for wilderness rites of pasasge with the School of Lost Borders

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
