Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My goal is to help clients come to greater clarity, understanding, and acceptance of themselves, to guide them to more effective coping skills so that peace of mind is within their reach. Clients at different times in their lives may be going through transitions or struggles that through acceptance and support can grow in different ways. I help people look at the patterns in their relationships and the ways those patterns create glitches in their life. The client gains insight into their behaviors and with the therapist’s help can find that change is possible. I am here to understand each client, looking into their world, help them utilize their own strengths and resources to help promote internal and external change. People’s symptoms are seen as efforts that have not worked to feel better. With help in understanding their current situation, clients can learn that change is possible, creating more positive coping styles.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
