Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues providing services that span from therapy for PTSD and trauma, depression, anxiety and grief counseling to parenting support, couples counseling, stress management and beyond. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs to help attain the personal growth they’re striving for. My goal is to empower and help clients uncover their true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve the challenges we meet in life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I support clients in uncovering long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding them back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. My approach to life professionally as well as personally is based on a humanistic perspective with respect for the individual and with a focus on personal strengths and positive aspects. I appreciate honesty and believe it is particularly important to respect the individual’s integrity and right to self determination.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
