Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I believe effective therapy starts with a safe and empathic connection between client and therapist. Together, we will explore the here and now of what is troubling you. You will learn about the treatment modalities available to you, and we will develop a plan that makes the most out of your therapeutic experience. Psychotherapy involves an investment of self, time, and money. I consider it crucial that my clients understand the process and what is involved. I will address any questions you may have so you can begin your therapy informed and empowered to start making lasting change right away. I work extensively with grief and loss: death of a loved one, an ending relationship, job termination, a diagnosis of ill health. Many life transitions may cause sudden and abrupt change, creating anxiety about an uncertain future. We will collaborate to understand your current situation and find your path forward. I draw on 25 years of corporate management experience when exploring career concerns. I can help you determine your priorities, and develop a sense of work / life balance. My primary goal is to help you become empowered and develop skills you can use even after our therapy together has ended.

Featured Therapist

Kelly Duggan Shearer, M.A.
Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
