Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Every client deserves the utmost respect for his/her process of healing and reaching personal goals in a genuinely safe, therapeutic environment. My approach to therapy is non-authoritarian, collaborative, and interactive, based on your personal needs. With over 20 years of professional experience, I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups, in office and via phone. My orientation is psychodynamic, relational, cognitive, systems, with aspects of interpersonal neurobiology. My specialties are trauma, loss, early parent loss, "motherless daughters", "high-demand group"(or cult) recovery and education, relationships, meaning of life issues. I generally receive feedback from clients that they feel heard and understood and that the work we do together leads to better outcomes than in the past. You may be aware of self-limiting patterns in your life and deeply-internalized inaccurate beliefs that interfer with the quality of life you seek. In my experience, disconfirmation of inaccurate, self-limiting beliefs is a primary part of the recovery process that allows a person to pursue developmental goals. As the therapeutic process unfolds, clients have told me with relief that their responses finally "make sense" given their experiences, often leading to a greater appreciation and acceptance of themselves.

Services
I offer individual, couple, and family pychotherapy, counseling, and consultations, in office and via phone. I facilitate on-going, safe, and successful groups: 1) A Group for Motherless Daughters, every other week in which participants discuss relevant issues in their lives, current and past, with opportunities to heal from loss and trauma, gain validation from others who understand, learn more effective survivor skills, celebrate successes and gain support with challenges. 2) I facilitate a safe Group for Former Members of High-Demand Groups or Cults every other Saturday in which participants address relevant issues in their lives, current and past, in a non-authoritarian group environment. Opportunities in group include taking steps in healing from loss and trauma, gaining trust in self, developing critical thinking skills, knowing personal rights, understanding the process of recruitment and indoctrination, as psychologically and physically leaving the group, learning survivor skills, celebrating successes, gaining support with challenges, connecting to society-at-large. I also provide shared parenting support and education for High-Conflict or Divorced Parents.
