Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Daniel Linder is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Addictions Specialist, Relationship Trainer, practicing in San Rafael for the past twenty-five years serving individuals, couples, and families with culturally diverse backgrounds. When asked about his choice of occupation, psychotherapy, he'd tell you that growing up on the streets of Brooklyn made him a street-savvy guy. That, for as long as he can remember, he was interested in the subtleties and nuances of people, of all people, regardless of who they were and where he was. "As a child, few things captured my attention as much as how people related to one other, whether they were really close or not that close, and what they said and didn't say to each other. I've been a perennial student of relationships all of my life." In his first book, To Relieve the Pain, Demystifying Addiction, he developed a relationship model understanding the emotional dynamics of addiction dependency. "The 'pathological dependence,' whether on substances or activities, i.e. gambling, sex, porn, is a pathological relationship." Linder's second book, Relational Recovery, Empowering the Transformation of Relationships is a guide for recovering addicts, and anyone else for that matter, on basic principles and skills that make intimacy possible. Linder firmly believes that psycho-education is a vital part of treatment and that relationship or intimacy-building skills can be taught. "Intimacy doesn't just happen. It is not a matter of luck. Basic prinicples apply."

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
