Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My typical client comes in, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because they have a situation or two that they haven't been able to figure out. Sometimes the basis of the problem is simple and sometimes not. Regardless, solutions often come from a better understanding of the complexity or simplicity of the situation, and learning new skills to manage the situation better. Sometimes the situations are a bit more complicated due to unconscious beliefs and the process of improving involves bringing (limiting) unconscious beliefs into conscious awareness and changing them to be supporting (instead of limiting). More stubborn problems are often rooted in deeper emotional wounds often dating back to events earlier in life. This is generally the most transformational work therapists do. It doesn't happen everyday or even every week, but when it happens it is powerful and liberating. Patience, care, and a good sense of timing work well in therapy as well as in life in general.

Services
Therapeutic/Counseling support for families with children aged from prenatal through college. Addressing behavioral problems, developmental delays, emotionally intense children, anger management, tantrums, defiance, problems with siblings, peers, bullys. Problems with attention deficit (ADHD), school and homework. Rude, nasty, and abusive teens. Divorce repurcussions and step-families. I do not do custody evaluations. I don't report to judges and attorneys unless in my judgment a child's safety is at risk. I'm here to help heal and improve functioning, not for litigation support. I will advocate for children whose physical, mental, or emotional health is threatened. Hint: all of the above goes better when a child and their parent(s)have a postive and responsive relationship. Sometimes the bond between parent and child is the starting point and it is often the case that little happens until those relationships improve. Many adults benefit from treatment addressing issues from childhood that are having a lasting harmful impact (and sometimes clients are completely unaware of the link).

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Temecula, CA

I’ve been in private practice in Temecula since 1990. I work with individuals, couples and families on a variety of issues, using a straight-forward approach to problem solving. While I listen with empathy, I am an “active” therapist, meaning I make suggestions, give direction and homework to partner with my clients so they can solve their problems in a timely, effective manner.
