Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Hello. I am a therapist that will meet you were you are and help you to get to where you want to go. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a humanistic / existential and psychodynamic philosophy. I believe in treating the whole person and that, the ability to feel acceptance and belonging, along with the development of insight and the capacity to take control and authorship of our own stories, are the key ways to find and discover the personal happiness that we all seek. When you are ready, I am here. Let's go on a journey together. I believe the single most important factor in successful therapy is the creation of a safe, non-judgmental space. I feel that the trust I create with my patients fosters a strong sense of catharsis, improved insight, and ultimately healing. I believe in treating the whole person and that we are more than the sum of our parts. While I have primarily worked with men from all backgrounds, I have also worked with women, children, and families. I have helped people struggling with anxiety disorders, depression, sexual issues, childhood traumas, low self-esteem, hoarding, relationship issues, ADHD, and phase of life problems.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
