Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My belief is that therapy is a process of self-reflection, growth and development which takes place in the context of an empathetic and authentic relationship with a therapist. Clients often come with symptoms or relational patterns that are painful to them and a desire to make changes in their lives. My role as a therapist is to help them make meaning of their personal history, relationships, motivation and feelings over time so they can have a greater sense of personal agency, expand their options, alleviate symptomatic and behavioral patterns and enrich their lives. My style is interactive, playful, empathic and warm. My training has been most influenced by Object Relations and Relational Psychology. I have a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy and sandtray which are used when appropriate, to explore feelings, memories, beliefs which may be difficult to access through verbal therapy in order to help deepen and expand the work.

Patricia Ravitz, M.A.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
San Rafael, CA

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
