Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
As a licensed MFT and board certified art therapist (ATR-BC), I work collaboratively with teens, adults and families who are in crisis, or otherwise challenged and stressed by anxiety, depression, or trauma. There may be relationship or family conflict, abuse, self-injury, anger, addiction, sexual orientation and gender identity issues, life transitions, and the pain of loss. Therapeutic change happens when there is a mutual trust and connection between therapist and client in a safe and supportive environment that is free from judgment or expectation. Talk therapy is hard for people with trauma histories. Body-based results of trauma are stored in the right hemisphere. Activation of the right hemisphere offers access to the stored physical and emotional traumatic memories, internal sensations, feelings, and thoughts that can then be expressed in visual form. In addition to art therapy, I also use mindfulness, journaling, and guided imagery - building a container for themes to emerge and providing a concrete way of 'seeing' and processing meaning. There is no need to have any previous art experience in order for this to be highly beneficial and is used with all ages.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
