Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Parenting children is full of both challenging and deeply gratifying experiences. I work with families from pregnancy through early childhood, helping parents to be the secure base that children need on their developmental path. Attachment research points out the vital importance of parental reflective capacity--that is, a parent's ability to understand that their child's behavior (and their own) is linked, in meaningful ways, to underlying mental states such as feelings, wishes, thoughts, intentions, and desires. AT THE HEART OF EFFECTIVE PARENTING IS THE CAPACITY TO REFLECT. In independent practice since 1998, I serve individual adults, couples, and families with young children, with emphasis on infant/early childhood mental health, perinatal depression/anxiety, fatherhood, co-parenting, divorce/custody issues and short-term intensive parent work. As part of my consultation process, I regularly offer home / school visits. Additionally, I created the innovative Mindful Parenting Group model a decade ago: a relationship-focused, development-driven parent / infant experience, promoting reflective parenting practices & secure attachment. This model was approved by L.A. County Department of Mental Health and the California Institute of Mental Health as an evidence-based practice.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
