Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
A crustacean crawling the ocean floor can't imagine building a nest in a birch tree. A person, though he or she may dream of change, may feel as incapable of it as a lobster is of flight. The invisible net that traps this person is composed of thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and behavior, which is to say, experience. In a complex feedback loop, subliminally held beliefs (frequently concerning self and others) influence perception, emotional states, behavior, and vice versa. Often, the nature of such a mental/emotional pattern is to reinforce chronically limiting ways of being. I seek to build a supportive environment in which the exploration of these patterns is facilitated with the goal of enhancing one's awareness and creating richer meaning. For some, such as those who were abused in childhood, this process involves the willingness to confront emotional pain and to let go of self defeating coping strategies. I have had the privilege of participating collaboratively in such a process with individuals whose resilient strength and honesty ground the transmutation of limiting mental/emotional patterns.

During times like these it can feel like the world has been turned “upside down”. There is HOPE! You don’t have to figure this out alone.
