Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Douglas Baker prides himself on providing a non-judgmental environment in which to discuss a wide range of subjects. He welcomes all clients. Some of his clients simply desire his trained, objective and affirming point of view. He also welcomes clients who are living with mental illness. He has expertise in treating adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. He also works with people who engage in self-injurious behavior and eating disorders. Doug provides couple’s therapy and excels in working with couples where one person may feel more committed to the process of therapy than the other. He affirms all members of the LGBT community and welcomes the opportunity to work with people within all ranges of gender identity and expression. As a final note he has a special affinity for working with the parents and family members of LGBT adolescents and young adults during their coming out process. He is happy to assist the family through an often challenging period of reorientation. In addition to providing individual, couples and family therapy, Douglas Baker is also a trained Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) therapist. DBT was designed to develop skills in four basic areas. The program gives emotionally sensitive people the skills needed to regulate their emotions, have more effective interpersonal relationships, tolerate distress and build a foundation of core mindfulness. No subject is too challenging to be addressed.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Temecula, CA

I’ve been in private practice in Temecula since 1990. I work with individuals, couples and families on a variety of issues, using a straight-forward approach to problem solving. While I listen with empathy, I am an “active” therapist, meaning I make suggestions, give direction and homework to partner with my clients so they can solve their problems in a timely, effective manner.
