Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Hello, I’m Doug Marum. I’ve been in mental health work since 1973; a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1976, and have been in full time general practice since 1980. I also run an anger management domestic violence program I established in 1981. I received a Ph.D. in counseling psychology in 1990. That was a challenging, rewarding endeavor, but I have to say the greatest education has ultimately come from the clients I’ve worked with over the years.

We are all flawed, complex human beings with both wonderful strengths and assets, and painful, detrimental liabilities. Though we have many common characteristics and themes in our lives, the dance of our genetic encoding with all our life experiences produces the unique expression of ourselves at this moment of time. Counseling can be exciting, painful, arduous and exhilarating adventure to better accomplish the “dance” of life.
