Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I have more than 25 years experience as a group therapist in a variety of agency, academic and private practice settings, am a member of the American Group Psychotherapy Assoc., and am on the National Registry of Certified Group Psychotherapists (CGP). I have been teaching Group Dynamics in masters courses at JFK University in Pleasanton, and CIIS in San Francisco for over a decade. I have been offering this group during the past fifteen years and have a full-time private practice in Oakland specializing in problems of depression and anxiety. The group model I use for the Improving/Deepening Relationships Group integrates general systems and object relations perspectives in order to address transferences to other group members, to the therapist, and to the group as a whole system. The later focus is particularly valuable to dealing with embedded family of origin patterns of relating that influence current adult functioning.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
