Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I believe in helping people help themselves. A big part of therapy involves education. When individuals, couples or families come in to see me they are usually in crisis. Very often crises occur because of repeated self-defeating behaviors or poor choices that are usually based on skewed or distorted perceptions and a 'faulty blueprint' passed down from our families of origin. As a Therapist, I offer clients some alternative ways to view the situation which can very often lead to a reduction of their symptoms in the short term and a renewed sense of empowerment and more productive behaviors and choices in the long term. As stated earlier, in addition to facilitating the process of generating new insights to old problems, I believe that education is the key in personal change. I enjoy teaching my clients how to communicate more effectively by listening beyond the words. I also use a variety of interesting activities to enhance the learning process such as sand play, role-playing and work-sheets to assist with Cognitive Restructuring or the ability to look at a situation by interpreting it in a more positive way. Also, besides treating children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, I also offer classes in a couple areas of interest such as Parenting and Anger- Management.
