Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I feel privilege and honor to have an opportunity to be a practicing Intern at Oak Creek Counseling Center. I have been working in different capacities in the counseling field since 1995 and have the experience of being in the therapeutic process (individual, couples, group, and family) myself. I truly appreciate the incredible vulnerability, courage, and strength that are part of the therapeutic process. I do all I can to treat my own clients with the same respect, compassion, curiosity, and love that I have been supported with in my own growth as a woman, daughter, mother, spouse, friend, and student. I am struck, again and again, by the profound transformation and healing that happens when one is able to be completely honest with one self and take that first step towards transformation. Most importantly, when you feel truly and completely held, witnessed and heard in the therapeutic process. As a Therapist Intern, it is this marvel and respect that I have brought to and strive to continue to bring into all of my therapeutic client relationships. . I have experience working with children, teens, young adults, and adults who have cross cultural issues, internalized homophobia, survived sexual abuse, domestic violence, and/or the loss of a love one. I have learned important lessons about myself, others, and the different ways in which I could use myself to bring about change not only in the lives of individuals, but also in the greater community through my professional and volunteer activities. As a Therapist Intern, I continue my commitment to the values of peer support networks, of harm reduction, and deep respect for people traditionally marginalized.
