Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I know that choosing a therapist is an important and personal decision, and one that should not be made lightly… in order for therapy to be effective, it has to be the right fit between the client and the therapist. In fact, the research support this; the goodness of fit is very important. Let’s start with a free consultation phone call, to see if my style jives with yours. If it's doesn't, I'll do my best to recommend other providers who might be the right fit. I believe that all individuals have the ability to grow and overcome; my work centers around this idea. I am passionate about providing top-notch, collaborative care to my clients, and working toward positive changes through the use of empirically-based psychotherapy models that have been shown to be effective. I specialize in working with adolescent, young adult, and adult clients, as well as families, and I am also experienced in the treatment of addictive disorders. I have an additional specialization with members of the LGBT population. My biggest strength is my ability to form strong, secure relationships with my clients. I am patient, experienced, and able to address complex issues in a creative, knowledgeable, and accepting manner. I am theoretically-oriented with Systems Theory (the belief that we each influence our immediate environment around us and are subsequently influenced by others), and Psychodynamic Theory (a method that evaluates how past experiences may be impacting current behavior and feelings), though I am also knowledgeable about interventions and treatment based on Motivational Interviewing, the 12-Step Addiction Model, Addiction-free Pain Management, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Seeking Safety (for trauma survivors), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, the Disease Model of Addiction, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am a past professor in the graduate division at Pepperdine University, and I do my best to stay up-to-date in order to deliver high-quality, effective care. My psychotherapy sessions are catered to the individual needs of each client, and my treatment style is flexible and accommodating. I have a comfortable, peaceful, and spacious office in Westlake Village off of Corsa Avenue, which offers client privacy and ample parking, and I may have early morning or early evening appointments available. At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
