Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Hello, thank you for your interest in my practice and for taking the time to check carefully if I can be of any help to you in your personal and / or professional life. Whether you are having a hard time sorting things out for yourself or communicating with other people, whether at home or at work or in any other environment, I believe I can help you achieve your goals and improve your relationships. Selecting from different theoretical orientations the ones that I consider most appropriate for solving the particular issues that you bring in, I integrate them in order to address your specific concerns and achieve significant improvements within a reasonably short time. Training and long experience in Clinical Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy have given me the expertise to conduct psychotherapy both at an individual and at a relationship level. I enjoy working with people of different cultural backgrounds, and I specialize in issues of recent immigration, acculturation and cross-cultural interactions, both at work and in personal relationships. My specialized combination of skills comes from several sources: specialized training and experience in Multicultural Psychotherapy, my own multicultural background, extensive traveling, and fluency in several languages. This expertise allows me to help people identify and clarify the painful feelings often aroused by miscommunication, unfulfilled expectations, and the misinterpretation of sensitive cultural differences, and show them more effective ways to communicate. The method is to help recognize and interpret potential personal blocks and misunderstandings, and to develop tolerance and enhance empathy and cooperation in members of a relationship. The goal is to develop effective and polite styles of communication and interaction that facilitate the resolution of both personal and relational issues and enhance happiness and well-being.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
