Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I believe the relationship between therapist and client forms the basis for the healing process. As this trusting relationship develops, the client is helped to uncover those experiences from the past or in the present that cause pain, hinder growth, and perpetuate self-defeating behaviors. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and the accompanying mood and anxiety disorders. I use a variety of approaches to work toward the client's recovery, including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic and solution-focused. I believe each person has the capacity within to grow and thrive. My role is that of collaborator and guide, helping the client discover his/her own strengths and resources. My experience includes counseling at community mental health facilities and working as a case manager and staff therapist at a residential treatment center for women battling eating disorders and drug/alcohol addiction.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
