Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
My work is with individuals, couples, families and groups on a wide range of concerns including trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, life transitions, acculturation issues, relationship issues and parenting. A significant area of my interest focuses on the emotional, psychological and physical struggles involved with reproductive health issues, including infertility, perinatal mood and anxiety disorder and perinatal loss. I offer culturally sensitive therapy, both in-depth and time short-term when appropriate. My approach is collaborative, working with clients to help them acquire new insights, skills, and behaviors that are needed to make positive changes in their lives. I believe that healing takes place in the context of an authentic relationship based on caring, respect and trust. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment for clients in which they feel safe to explore and work through the pain that fuels self-defeating patterns and beliefs. I use my training to help guide clients to a place of greater mindful self-awareness, which involves the ability to respond non-judgmentally, non-reactively and compassionately to one's thoughts and feelings. Because awareness creates choice, in therapy clients can discover, often rediscover, their own strengths to heal and thrive. My perspective on psychotherapy comes from my deeply rooted belief in the boundless resilience of the human spirit, our ability not only to survive hardships but to heal and flourish, achieving a more balanced and meaningful life. People are far greater than their problems, and I am humbled and moved by the strength and courage I witness in clients. I welcome your call to discuss how I can be of help to you.
