Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
For the past ten years, I have been helping children, adolescents, young adults and families develop the skills they need to reduce their suffering. In my work across demographics, I developed a strong passion for helping girls and young women navigate social, emotional and societal challenges. I have worked extensively with adolescents and young women and their families to create space for alternative perspectives, in the midst of ideas that appear to be quite opposite. Since becoming intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I look at therapy as a balancing act—accepting what is and asking for change simultaneously. This parallels the ideas that so often become polarized in families with one person pushing another to change their ways and the other person requesting that they accept them as they are. In coming to a place of balance, I have found that many families and adolescents increase their ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and engage with one another. When there is space for this to occur, many problems are solved. DBT incorporates mindfulness in which I have a strong interest. I utilize its techniques both personally and professionally.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
