Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Your healing matters. I help others heal from unresolved trauma affecting relationships, parenting, effectiveness in the workplace, bodily functioning, and overall well-being. I provide psychotherapy on a short-term or long-term basis and tailor my approach according to each person/family because each person responds differently to psychotherapy. My collaborative approach begins with building a safe environment because developing a solid therapeutic relationship is essential. I anchor my therapy approach in Psychodynamic/Object-Relations therapy to recognize the past, use Trauma focused techniques to address trauma, and hold a systemic lens to consider present context (i.e. culture, gender, class). I also draw from Internal Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to teach coping skills. I am a bilingual psychotherapist passionate about providing culturally sensitive therapy to adults, adolescents, and families. I enjoy empowering minorities to succeed in the workplace. I'm also passionate about helping others access relevant mental health resources. I provide sliding scale fees to those in need with limited slots available. I see clients in San Jose and downtown San Mateo. Contact me for free consultation to see if we are a fit.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
