Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I left after 20 years as a Social Work Supervisor at county Child Protective Services to work full time in my private counseling practice. At CPS, I trained emergency response social workers to investigate child abuse allegation, write court reports, testify in court. I have testified in court myself over 300 times, and was a pioneer in supervising the first unit which offered the community and extended family the opportunity to participate in the placement and removal decions for children removed from their homes. During the last 10 years of my CPS career, I had a part time counseling practice in the evenings - first at a hospital based EAP and then in private practice with 8 other therapists. I have treated victims of many kinds of trauma, am Red Cross certified for disaster work, worked with Northern California Kaiser as an independent provider of DBT training to chronically suicidal clients, have worked for many years with adolescents who had cutting behaviors, oppositional behavior, grief, anger. My current work has expanded the above to family problems resulting from deployment and helping families manage the stresses of joblessness, financial losses, etc. My practice in OC is mostly adults and couples. About 15% of my clients are adolescents. I honor the ability to heal and make positive changes in every client and partner with them to reach their goals.
