Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Goals are to help children, adults, partners, married couples and families overcome problems that limit the actualizing of their potential and inhibit personal, social, and spiritual growth and development.

A vast array of scientific knowledge, clinical expertise and spiritual sensitivity is used in helping individuals, couples and families attain these goals.

The philosophy is adhered to that the dignity and worth of individuals are shared by all mankind, and being made in God's Image, human freedom and intellectual choices must be respected and used in problem solving and development.

'(Cognitive-Behavior Therapy clarifies) the patient's distortions, self-injunctions and self-reproaches that lead to…distress or disability…' (Aaron Beck, MD, Dept. of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania) 'People can give meaning to their lives…by experiencing the Good, the True and beautiful…(Therapy aims at) being conscious of having responsibility.' (Viktor Frankl, MD)

'God is the principle and the end of all genesis and of all movements of (Human Persons); from Him they come, towards Him they move…' (St. Maximus the Confessor). I rely not only on the deep spiritual tradition of the Orthodox Church, but over 30 years of undergraduate and graduate academic experience, including clinical supervision of doctoral psychology students and over 40 years of clinical experience.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
