Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I can help you lift your mood, calm your anxiety and panic attacks, walk through grief, and manage your anger. I can teach you social skills and help you with relationships. I am a pre-marital counselor and couples therapist and enjoy seeing couples as well as individuals. My style is practical, efficient, active, and non-stuffy. I am down to earth, authentic, like to add in humor, and use a cultural lense to customize your treatment. I have worked with people with difficulties ranging from mild to those with severe mental illness. I am trained in EMDR which is a really helpful alternative to talk therapy when working with trauma/posttraumatic stress. I am fluent in Spanish and offer some home therapy for those with disabilities or agoraphobia.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My work is based on establishing a safe environment where trust can grow. I view symptoms as a way to call attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings. The goals of treatment include; learning to identify and express emotions, learning to set appropriate boundaries, developing skills such as self-soothing and impluse control and improving self-esteem.
