Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
In the more than 20 years I've been blessed to do this work, my methods and approach have gradually matured and evolved in the way that an integration of time and experience make possible. What has never changed is my deep respect for the intricacies and complexity of each human journey. I am a licensed "mental health professional," and I value that designation. Yet after two decades in the field--and with my profession having to operate in an ever-changing world--the work itself continues to teach me that humans are in need of something far deeper than what is often considered the flip side of "mental illness." We are in need of respect--at times reverence--for the vast territory that our life experience requires us to embrace. So, while I'm working with a client[s] on resolving the very real, very practical and immediate concerns of life and relationships and work, I am also aware that without some measure of wisdom and compassion--and a great deal of trust--present in the treatment room, all the models and techniques available to me, to us, will go only so far. More than ever, in this sped-up, technologized, wired world, the heart, the soul, the spirit need a voice, and my work is dedicated to doing whatever is possible to make sure they have one.

About My Practice

Office Hours
Appointments available Monday-Thursday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Individual, couples & group psychotherapy with adults from a wide range of dysfunctionally patterned backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to: adults from addicted families of origin; survivors of childhood physical and sexual abuse; adults recovering from trauma related to early religious training. All forms of addiction, and recovery from it, are viewed and treated practically, but are also dealt with as metaphors for the deeper yearning that all humans have to make a more meaningful connection to life. Work with blocked creatives and with individuals and businesses in various transitional and psycho-spiritual stages of the life cycle. Extensive training in systems theory and its application to the family and other human systems. Various linear and non-linear approaches also take into consideration the larger cultural system within which our personal systems must function. Lectures and workshops on various topics.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
