Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Therapy services are offered for individuals of all ages, as well as families. I specialize in helping kids and teens, along with their parents, to be happier, healthier, and better able to communicate with one another. I approach treatment with the belief that we all want to grow to be our best selves but sometimes things get in the way. I work collaboratively to determine what your goals are and how we can best work together to help you reach them. When it comes to working with children and younger teenagers, I do not use traditional "talk therapy." Instead, I utilize play therapy to help children work through their struggles. Play therapy is a well-researched and clinically validated method for working with children. Plus, it makes therapy a lot more fun so that kids and teens will actually enjoy the experience. You can visit my website (www.hayleycasselman.com), or the Association for Play Therapy's site (http://www.a4pt.org/) for more information.

About My Practice

Office Hours
Daytime and evening hours Monday through Thursday
Services
While there are many reasons individuals and families seek treatment with me, some of the more common include:

- Attentional, organizational, and/or academic issues, including AD/HD
- Mood issues, including depression and bipolar disorder
- Trauma, including experiences of abuse, PTSD, etc.
- Anxiety/stress issues, ranging from "everyday life" stress to panic attacks or OCD
- Family/life transitions, including divorce/separation, loss/grief, new school/job, etc.
- Behavioral problems, which can be a result of an undiagnosed issue (such as depression or AD/HD) or may be a matter of finding the right style to fit both caregiver and child

Additionally, for families involved in ongoing legal disputes (such as divorce or custody) or with open abuse cases, please know that I do have extensive experience working with children, teens, and families through these circumstances. Please call me directly to discuss your specific situation and how I can help your family through this challenging time. I also have experience attending IEP and 504 meetings at schools, when appropriate and at the family's discretion.

I encourage you to visit my website (www.hayleycasselman.com) or give me a call to discuss your specific needs and how I can help.

Donna J. Shanahan, MA

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Pasadena, CA 91101

I am a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families in short and long-term psychotherapy. We work together to explore memories of the relational dynamics of the individual’s family, the feelings those dynamics created for the individual as a child, and how the individual now relates to those feelings and memories.
