Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
The focus of my practice is helping people who feel they have reached a crossroad in their lives; people entering the second half of life; young adults striking out on their own; couples about to be married; and couples in conflict wondering how they might stay together. These new experiences are fraught with unexpected moods such as fear, anger, and depression. Old ways of coping no longer seem to work. It can be a time of great upheaval. At this critical point it can be very supportive to get assistance finding your way back to your innate talents, creativity, bravery, and imagination. Maybe I can help. My education, experience, and training draw from the traditions of Western depth psychotherapy (notably the work of Carl Jung) and Eastern spirituality (Buddhism). While the heart of my approach is talk therapy, I often enhance the experience through dream exploration, art, music, poetry, and mythology. Most importantly, I am very much "in" the therapy with you, creating an atmosphere that is safe, responsive, caring, and accepting. Together we can help you build a compassionate relationship with your thoughts, feelings, and sensations, to be kinder with yourself and others, and to live with courage and heart.
