Personal Statement:
Dr. Val-Essen has enjoyed working with parents, families, children and teens, as well as couples and individuals during thirty years as a psychotherapist in private practice. She believes that people of all ages want to grow and enjoy a full and meaningful life. She creates a safe environment to encourage the process of growth. Drawing upon many approaches from Western psychology as well as Eastern traditions, Dr. Val-Essen’s goal is to help people discover and bring out their best. Dr. Val-Essen is the author of a book for parents, Bring Out the Best in Your Child and Your Self, which helps parents create a family environment based on mutual respect. Dr. Val-Essen has also created the Quality Parenting program, which has been translated into Spanish, Swedish, and Dutch. In the US and Europe, instructors are teaching this program to parents of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds. Dr. Val-Essen is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
