Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Psychodynamically oriented, I work with individuals, couples and groups in San Francisco. I have worked in a variety of agencies, several with gay/lesbian populations over the past 25 years. My individual work is depth-oriented, with an intersubjective approach. I facilitate two long-term interpersonally-oriented groups for gay men, focusing on intimacy, relationships, self-esteem and sexual behavior. I’ve contributed 2 chapters- one on Sexual Compulsivity, one on AIDS and Counter transference to a text, Therapists on the front line: Psychotherapy with Gay Men in the age of AIDS. Currently serving on the council of the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society, I am a certified Group Psychotherapist with the American Group Psychotherapy Association. I am also a continuing education provider (PCE 2746) for LCSW’s and MFT’s. I train and consult on a variety of issues, including the phases of group development and the research of Ariadne Beck, M.A. on leadership roles in groups (Emotional, Scapegoat, Defiant, and Task Leaders). I work with all sexual orientations and genders.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
