Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
I began my psychotherapy practice in 1986. I work with individual adults, couples and families. My clinical focus is on working with deeply embedded defenses and healing the earliest psychic and relational wounds. I have been a clinician in Psychoanalytic infant observation studying infant development, the formation of parent/infant relationships, infantile states, primitive communication and early trauma through direct observation of infants and their families. I have been a clinical supervisor of therapists-in-training for fifteen years. I teach seminars for psychotherapy trainees and interns on such topics as dreams, relational trauma, impasses and working with the infant-self in adult patients. I have provided psychotherapy at City College of San Francisco and the University of California, San Francisco in the post-baccalaureate programs. I lead a case conference and study group for early career psychotherapists in San Francisco. I am the co-developer and co-chair of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis Seasoned Clinicians Extension Program. I am a clinical community member of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that minimized your self-esteem. The journey inward toward your past can often be frightening and disheartening. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be.
