Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
When you find yourself doing the same things over and over, and the ending is still the same dissatisfying ending, perhaps you need someone who can help you explore other choices. This is what I do: I can work with you to create a more meaningful life. I especially work with male and female adults who have been sexually victimized as children, or who have been traumatized as adults. Often depression, or a feeling of "stuckness," heightened anxiety, riddled relationships, inappropriate or numb feelings, flashbacks, and insomnia are a few of the symptoms that adults who have been traumatized experience. I am trained to diminish, and in some cases, completely eradicate these limitations. To further these ends, I teach several forms of emotional and physical relaxation through breathing techniques, guided imagery, and meditation. In addition, spirituality is sometimes key to recovery, and since I am a certified Christian therapist, I can call upon these resources if wanted. For couples therapy, I draw from Gottman and Terrence Real, who have researched, written books and have devoted themselves to clinical experiences with relationships. Couples have found this therapy to be extremely effective in gaining new perspectives and insights on themselves and their relationships. I also work with the friends or family members of someone who loves an addicted person. Addictions today take the form of alcoholism, drug addiction, the internet, shopping, hoarding, etc. For those who need to live with an addict and/or to live with themselves in this situation, therapy can assist one to understand addiction, and to learn how to make choices that are best for us. I also have had special training in group therapy and neurology, and host a group for adults who have traumatic brain injury. It is a requirement that verbal communication is intact, and I do speak with each individual to see that they are a good fit.
